TSA Technical Series: Navigating Changes to Part 3 of the OBC

It’s been over 12 years since Ontario has adopted a new Building Code and after much anticipation, the 2024 Building Code has finally been released and will come into effect on January 1, 2025 (with specific extension allowances). This new Building Code has a different structure, adapting the 2020 National Building Code with an 800-page amendment that is exclusive to Ontario (“Ontario Amendments to the National Building Code of Canada 2020”). So now is the perfect time to get a head start to better understand the new format and prescriptive requirements before it becomes enforced in the new year.

Intended for those already familiar with the OBC, this virtual lecture with Rhiannon Todd of CodeNext will provide guidance on how to navigate the harmonized 2024 Building Code and understand the requirements that have been changed, added, or removed from OBC Part 3, “Fire Protection, Occupant Safety and Accessibility.” During this session we will:

• Review key enforcement dates
• Learn how to navigate the new structure of the Building Code
• Obtain a high-level understanding of new OBC Part 3 technical changes
